Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Cheap, little-to-no lag time switching between PCs, works fine for me with 4 PCs sharing a G5 and Das Keyboard.
Cons: The guys who designed this were stoned or something; its a pain to mount this flat on ANYTHING. The tension from the KVM cables coupled with the fact that there are basically ports on *all* 4 sides (the top has...

would be fine if it actually worked
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week Pros: No Pros I could find, unless you think a big headache is fun. I spent 3 days messing with this thing. It simply doesn't work; systems don't boot, or hang, or video is messed up, and so much more fun. I tried it on 6 separate systems in every possible configuration of 4 hookups. 2 systems are AM2 X2s the rest are C2D 775s on 965 boards. Not exactly legacy.
Cons: Everything except...

TRENDnet 4-Port USB KVM Switch
Excellent product.
Let's regress:
Buy.com is not really clear that this product is
shipped with 4 separate cables. To support 4 pc's.
They have it spec'ed, blurred with ALL the spec's,
so re-read.
I ordered it Tues. Noon & it arrived Friday am via Fed ex
and I live in charlotte,nc. For the shipping I used the "budget"
cheapest/free, you have to click the option when filling out the order. Otherwise they kick you to a higher ship/cost.
I run several different platforms with various box...

Can anyone make a decent KVM?
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month Pros: Cheap integrated cables included Small Cheap
Cons: Ugly as sin Space Hog: This thing will take over 3 square feet of desk or floor space thanks to their "let-have-cables-come-out-of-each-side" design Keyboard hotkey works 40% of the time USB-powered..which means if you power off one of your PC's the keyboard switching stops working
Othe...

Ok for the money
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year Pros: The pros are that it works, and pretty well for the cost. Not a "high end" product, but if you really want a USB KVM, this is a great place to start. ( I happen to own a G15 KB, and really wanted to keep my sys performance stats on the LCD...)
Cons: Like most ppl have mentioned, it's not "desktop friendly", awkward cable setup, like an ungainly octopus with its...

Not worth it
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week Pros: Cheap. Comes with the cables, and they are of decent quality. Does basic switching.
Cons: Very poor response times. More often than not, I had to wait between 2-5 seconds before the PC was usable again. This switch actually disconnect from one PC, and connects to the next. It's like an old fashion A/B select box, but slower. I also had to unplug it frequently, as either mou...

Incompatible with Dell Optiplex 320
The TRENDnet TK-207K 2-port and TK-407K 4-port USB switches had two problems in my use of them:
1.When the unit being monitored is turned off the keyboard switching hot key does not work to switch the unit to the other PC (the manual switch on the unit does work, but that requires locating the switch in a location you can reach, not always easy to do).
2.These units do not function properly with the Dell Optiplex 320s for which I purchased them. They will not allow the Dell PC to boot-up/reboot ...

Thrilled With This Box!
All four ports are in use here in my (home) office: one to an old Pentium II workstation (with an archaic USB port I'd never tried out before), two to PIII-based laptops, and a fourth to a Mac Mini with a DVI output. My "head units" are a Kinesis Essential keyboard (with USB adaptor), a Kensington Technology Expert Mouse trackball, and a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW, which has a DVI input (direct from my Mac Mini) plus the usual VGA one. Aside from a shortish delay when switching the KVM...

Tip for vmware users
Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Cheap and does the job
Cons: Technical support does not exist. Was having problems at the begining (due to VMWare, details below). Tried to call their support number and was putting on hold forever; Send email to their support box and never heard anything back
Other Thoughts: I use this on two systems th...

Works Fine
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Works with a dell usb keyboard switching between 3 different systems without any problem. Since the keyboard I am using is not wireless and/or bluetooth I can't speak on possible problems there.
Cons: None really. It does what it is supposed to do. The one thing I will say is that if you completely shut down a system before you scr...
