Beware - My Book drives fail if left on 24/7

Reliable Home Backup
I have recently bought two portable drives: 1) Western Digital WDME1600TN My Passport Essential 160GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Midnight Black) and 2) Western Digital My Passport Essential 250GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Intense Blue).

Died right after warranty ended.
This was a good drive, until it went belly-up about five minutes after the warranty ended. Feh. What good is a big hard drive to back up your important data if it fails that fast?

Cons: Bought this to back up some home videos. Stored the videos on the drive and didn't use it again for some time. Wanted to retrieve the videos and discovered that the USB connector fell off of the internal circuit board making it useless.

It says its compatible and it is, but not without endless issues that will drive you insane. I will never purchase another WD product.
