This device uses less then 1 watt when its not on (many routers, computers, other devices use 2-7watts when "off" but plugged in)
The harddrive turns on and off with your computer/device.
Great power savings and no need for a power switch. With a long USB cord (comes with a medium, about 18inch cord) you can jam this way out of the way and not worry about having to reach it...
