Reliable Home Backup
I have recently bought two portable drives: 1) Western Digital WDME1600TN My Passport Essential 160GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Midnight Black) and 2) Western Digital My Passport Essential 250GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Intense Blue).

Failed in just two days.
I set this drive as a Time Machine backup for my Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5. The drive is absolutely stunning especially with the pretty led lights in the front. It was great for... two days, and it stopped working right after a simple unplugging of the surge protector that was connected to the computer and the drive. Pros: Excellent product, small size, quiet, gets the job done, and I like the auto-shutdown when the computer sleeps or is turned off.

This Hard Drive did not work with Dell XPS 1330 with Vista
It initially connected fine and I backed up my data. After powering down the DELL XPS M1330 laptop powering back up it would not show up as a drive even though after checking in hardware manager it showed up under usb devices. After calling Western Digital and Dell and spending hours with tech support we were unable to get the hard drive working with Vista. I sent it back for a refund. Great price, great performance, looks sleek to boot.
I have been buying and using external harddrives for ages. When I shoot video, and do editing, I store the finished footage on these harddrives. When I shoot images and pictures I store backups of my raw files, and finished psds/jpg.
Obviously, these files are very important to me, and thanks to past experience, I refuse to trust 1 drive to house all my important stuff.
