Warning - Defective Temp Sensors Common

Pros: When working properly, this is an excellent SATA Drive. Faster than most, quieter than most competition. WD has great support and RMA policy.
Cons: BUT BUT BUT... A good percentage of this model drive has a problem with heat sensing -- SMART sensors read extraordinarily high. Search the forums, and you will see several reports. I bought two at the same time, both produced in Feb 2006....

Pros: Cool quiet and fast.
Like another reviewer, I noticed the WD ""Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows"" sez an unknown SMART attribute failed. Pretty stupid to report a SMART attribute from a WD drive as ""unknown"".
Looking closer at the WD site, this diagnostic is for first gen. serial ATA, and this drive is second generation.

WD2500KS - FAST & QUIET!
I received this drive the other day and immediately installed it in my system. My motherboard has SATA II connections (Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9) so I was interested to see how this new drive would perform. Well, it greatly exceeded my expectations. Anyway, I'd recommend this drive to anyone, it does exactly what they say it does, and more.

Cons: unable to find sata2 drivers for harddrive. hitachi site have their own drivers for enabling sata2 on nonative sata2 mobos, i'm not sure if it can be used on a wd. the drivers for wd drives are nowhere to be found.
