Not for a Mac
Plugged it into my Mac laptop and it just clicked, couldn't find my machine. I talked to tech support they recommended that I send it back and get a new one. Plugged the new one in and it just clicked. Plugged it into a pc and it formatted into 4 partition. My Mac couldn't see any of them. Great customer support. Helpful return policy from Buy.com however the moral of the story... buy something else if you have a mac.

Works well - Good Value
This device works well on every USB slot and machine I've run it on. It's particularly convenient to not need an extra power source and only use 1 USB slot unlike some other devices. It'a a little heavier than some similar devices, but he price is good.

Works fine after setup
The drive comes pre-formatted. Unfortunately, it has 5 separate volumes and only one is NTFS-the rest are FAT32, which is not a good choice for Vista or XP. After learning how to use Computer Management in Windows Vista, I was able to reduce the number of partitions to two NTFS logical drives.
Now, the drives works very well. It powers up via the USB connection with no problems and photo transfers from SD cards move quickly and seamlessly. I'm using it with a HP dv6000 laptop.

Solid product, high quality, great value
IOGear's thick gauged aluminum design is definitely 10 times better than my 2 existing generic casings that are paper thin.
I called their tech support (local English speaker) about the reason for so many partitions. The reason was the use of FAT32 for older systems and Mac. Since I'm running XP, they recommended me to repartition the drive using NTFS. A few minutes later, I'm a happy camper with a whopping 160GB that fits into a shirt pocket.
Great product and good buy!!!

GREAT LITTLE HARD DRIVE
Ive been looking for a small sturdy portable Hard drive for a while, ive bought the low cost one but it was made of cheap aluminum which dented easily and the last time i dropped it, it stopped working, the drive would not boot up anymore. Ive had this IOGEAR one for a good amount of Drops and nothing seems to phase it, the body is a very thick aluminum but its still smaller then the cheap one. Overall its a great drive for the cost and i HIGHLY recommend it to anyone buying a portable drive.

Lots of space that takes little room
It seemed to good to be true, 160GB of space in such a small package and without the need for a separate power supply. But it is true and it's just what the doctor ordered. At twice the size of my laptop hard drive it's freed me up to carry nearly everything I need all the time. And it works flawlessly. The drive came formatted into 5 partitions. A quick E-mail to tech support let me know that was for Win95 and Mac users and that I could safely reformat to make it one drive, which I did. It's gr...

USB bus powered external hard drive
I needed lots of storage for diagrams in pdf format. I bought this Iogear 160gb hdd to power off my laptop so that I can access the drawings without lugging around the hard copies.
Just plug in the usb2 cable between the laptop and the iogear 160gb hard drive and I am set. No external power brick to carry around.

Works as advertised, and that's what counts
It is pretty stable, connect to any laptop or PC and you see it, some usb cards, especially PCMCIA addon usb ports maynot have the power needed to power up the drive but that is not the drives fault.
It comes with many partitions (FAT), I think 32 GB each you can easily remove some and create your own larger partition, however some backup programs (I use it to take backup images of my system disk) are not able to read NTFS so might be a good idea to keep one FAT partition.
Good thing with this...
