Made for Ubuntu
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) If you are one of the unfortunate ones with a broadcom wireless card, ie the terrible Dell 1390, on your Ubuntu laptop then this is a must have. It's fairly easy to replace the cards, look at the laptop service manual.
Ubuntu recognizes the card instantly. Everything works, including WPA.

Inexpensive For What You Get
I bought this card to replace a Ralink card inside my new notebook. I needed Linux compatibility and the Intel 3945abg offers great Linux compatibility. This card works great in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Ubunutu 6.10. The signal that I get using this card is fantastic -- much better than most of the PCMCIA cards that I have used in the past. The card is really easy to install (snap in, screw down two screws, and connect two antenna pigtails).

Cannot Recommend this card
Before buying this card you should search the Internet for the following: netw4v32
Intel released a set of very bad drivers which is spreading through several different releases and after 4 weeks still not fixed. As an example search the official Dell forums for this error and the card a Dell support technician publicly admits issues. This is problem is not vendor specific.
The card itself is easy to configure and reaches average strength with my Linksys router. It has work...

Dell e1505
I replaced my BCM4311 (Broadcom/Dell 1390)with the Intel 3945 in my Dell e1505. My main motivation was having a more Linux-friendly wireless card (coming from the BCM4311, it can't get much worse). After reinstalling Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn), wireless worked great out of the box...no need to download any drivers. After going to the Dell Support page and getting the Intel drivers, things were working great in Windows too.
I can't really tell any signal differences...both seemed to work ...

If you have Vista, beware!!!
If you take a look around, (internet search) you'll see there are significant issues with this card & Vista. Intel, from Vista RTM, has failed to provide solid drivers that are stable.
The Ver 10.x drivers intermittently drop the connection forcing a hard reset of the adapter using the notebooks physical switch.
The Ver 11.x drivers are even worse. The only way to recover is to reboot the system.
Just google "intel 3945abg dhcp vista" or similar and you'll see. ...

Mini-PCI Express form factor NOT Mini-PCI
I failed to realize that Mini-PCI Expre != Mini-PCI and the card wouldn't fit my centrino lappy. I'm not returning as I will use it in my next laptop -- so many come with broadcom (yuck) cards and I prefer OSS friendly manufacturers like INTEL.

Does not work with AMD64.
I'm an Ubuntu user and was looking for a card that would "just work" when I installed. This looked promising for other Ubuntu users, but no where was it mentioned, except for the leaflet that came with the device that this card is designed only for Intel (specifically Centrino) processors. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH AN AMD64 PROCESSOR! I'm sure this card is great, but when I put it in my laptop, a Dell Vostro 1000, it would not even boot. I ended up replacing the worthless Broadcom card that came w...

Works Great
Got a Compaq Presario notebook from a local ISP promotion, but it came with a Broadcom wlan. The wifi range for the Broadcom was poor since I could normally get very good signal coverage from my Acer notebook running an Atheros card. I purchased this Intel wlan and swap it with the Broadcom, and my wifi reception problem was solved. Words of caution: If you are matching this Intel PRO/Wireless wlan with a DLink DGL-4300 router, it seems the DLink would occassionally drop your connection.

Two Words: Netw4v32 error
This card and its drivers has taken my Sony Vaio and my internet experience to a new low. A disgraceful showing by Intel who simply can't fix their own problems. STEER CLEAR, you have been warned.
