Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I bought the Olympus 1030SW hoping to finally have found the camera that I could take, and use, without worrying about it, anywhere I go.

Was this ever tested for water use??
We purchased this camera in April of 09, getting ready for a wonderful beach season....We used it at the beach the first time in June and from June to September, we had to return the camera for 3 times. It leaks, the seal does not hold in water, sand makes it mad and it just isn't good quality for water use...Olympus cameras finally sent us a new one and it did the same thing...Costumer service was rude and started attempting to tell us how to use it correctly in the water..I read the directions...

Bad picture quality
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Pictures turn out to bright, with to much glare in the pictures. Had someone who knows a lot about cameras check her out and they said the brightness could not fixed. They tried to fix the exposure settings and they did not work, nothing we do helps. Tried playing with the shadow adjustment mode but it does not make a difference, every picture you take infront of something has your shadow...

Don't waste your $
Bought this camera in April of 2008, we live in Ohio and have only taken underwater once or twice on vacation. By September of 2009 all of the paint has peeled off of the front of the camera and the piece around the lens came off. I contacted Olympus and they refuse to repair since the warranty period is only one year. I do not recommend this product because of it's high price and poor quality.

LEAKS!
This camera leaked on me three times. I kept sending it back to Olympus and they would "fix" it rather than replace it. After the third time they replaced it (but not the memory card that was ruined).I never abused the camera, never took it deep in the water. It just seems like its not very waterproof. When it works, it is a beautiful camera, takes great pictures, and is easy to use. This may be better suited to someone who will not submerge the camera, which was what I needed.
