Perfect for light home use

The largest segment of computer users are primarily web browsers who use the occasional Office application. If that's you then this is a really good choice. It's small, well featured, and very well built. I've had a few opportunities to use these HP Slimline computers and I've been able to give them a good look over. The build quality is really good - on par with their higher end Pavilions and much better than their Compaq line.

Spec wise it's a good machine for a home user:

Nice Machine

Tech Level: high
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg

Pros: Compact size, looks, speed, HD size, PCI-E X-16 2.0 slot. Decent cooling (3 fans).

Cons: Two expansion slots covered by PS and therefore unusable.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded the video with a 512 MB low profile Radeon 4650 PCI-E 16 card and took out the modem an installed a PCI-E X-1 USB card, giving me 3 more ...

Nice little computer

Tech Level: high
Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg

Pros: Small, Resonable price. 4GB RAM.
It has PCI-Ex 16x slot. (Video card can be upgraded.)

Cons: Being small, it lacks in upgrade capability.
There are 1 PCI-Ex 16x, 2 PCI-Ex 1x, and 1 PCI slots.
However, PCI slot and one of PCI-Ex 1x slot is covered with power supply.

This leaves with only 1 PCI-Ex 16x and 1 PCI-Ex 1x slot...

Poor, Pathetic Machine

For what this machine may have been built for, it's hard disk is much bigger than anyone will ever need. It will definitely contain all the games anyone could ever want, but will never run them, multiple gigs of RAM or not. Not to mention Vista is the single most unstable OS I've ever seen. If you actually decide to get this computer, DO NOT EVER let it sleep; it may never wake up again. I've experienced this myself quite a few times... about an hour ago as a matter of fact. It had to be forced ...

Not so Good

The computer crashed during the initial start up. I should have just pakced it up and sent it back then, but I started over and got the computer set up. The first day it worked fine, then more and more programs started crashing or not responding at all. I finally gave up. When you can't even get Solitare to run right, you know its time to send the computer back. I also bought an HP monitor and printer to go with it, but the monitor wouldn't turn on half the time and the printer wouldn't pri...

Excellent machine for a regular user!

I bought one as a media server for my PS3. This machine runs fine and has excellent performance for the price. I like it so much I bought one for my father who is a casual user. He spends most of his time watching foreign tv stations and listening to foreign radio stations on the internet. He lovs it, particularly it's compact size.

I should clarify that on my unit I run Windows 2003 Server and it is adequate to the task. My father's machine is running Vista and it is about 10-15% le...

Good value desktop for student

[...]. I felt this machine offers a lot of value for a non-gamer in a nice compact size. Though it has an Athlon 64, 4 g RAM, 500 g HD, the graphics capabilities are limited (no separate graphics card and supposedly hard to upgrade). My son uses it mostly for web surfing, YouTube and email. It works with my older wireless-G USB adapter and webcam, after I downloaded Vista drivers. So far Vista has been ok, but this machine is eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade; hopefully that will be a good t...

Excellent machine for the average home user - Non Gamer

I've always built my own gaming machines, but for the wife & kids, this one fits the bill perfectly. It's very cheap, hard to build something decent yourself at this price. Small model, saves space on the desk, which is always a plus. Good enough hardward for browsing, casual gaming ( such as yahoo games) and light application use.

As with most name brand machines, you can't do much upgrading to it, most of the parts are specifically made for them, so you can replace anything, an...
