I ordered this because I had some UK DVD's (Region 2) that I wanted to watch. I've had this for a month and I can happily report no major complaints. The only criticism I do have is that if I stop a movie in the middle, the player will shut down after so many minutes. Basic region-free DVD player
I didn't want a player with all the bells and whistles for several hundreds of dollars. I was looking for a basic player which could play my European DVDs as well as my American ones. The fact that this player supports progressive scan and 1080i upscaling didn't hurt since I do have a HD TV. Great player for the price but not for you if you want all the bling-bling.
Installation took 2 minutes and everything worked great immediately. We'll see how it's working 2 years from now but right now...

Plays fine but had to enter code to make region free!!!
I bought this specifically for the region free option as advertised. However, it stated clearly on the box it was a region 1 only machine and i had to go onto the internet to find a code.
It now works fine but this should not be advertised this way!
For anyone else in the same position, the following should help you unlock the machine:
1. Turn on the unit
2. Open the loading tray
3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote

The item has been working fine so far (It has been 7 movies), but I give it 4 stars only because I know Philips is absolutely not durable. Good for what it is
This is a good region free DVD player. There are a couple drawbacks if you are used to your old fashioned high end DVD players though. It will not remember what chapter or time you were on, so if you stop or pause and let it turn off, be prepared to look for your spot the next time you turn it on.
The picture quality is great, no complaints there, although it would be nice if the remote were a little more intuitive, just messing around with it should get you familiar with how it works.

Excellent Player, Owned it for Over a Year now
I purchased this DVD player over a year ago and I have yet to find a format it won't play. It has not failed in any manner, it is quick and easy to move from one TV to another, and I am now going to buy another one. I have other region-free DVD players, but they didn't support all the formats this one does. The drawbacks are the limited scanning capabilities and the difficulty of use if you lose the remote control (LOL). Still, I've yet to find another one even close to being this ultra-comp...
