The Philips DVP5140, is an excellent device. I purchased it to play DVD's from the UK and they show wonderfully. I am also excited about the picture quality and sound.

GREAT MULTI REGION DVD PLAYER
I have had this product for well over a year and half and it has worked wonderfully for me. All I ever did was open the package, hook it up to my tv and insert one of my region 2 discs. I have never had a problem with reading either region 1 or 2 discs, they always come in clear and beautiful. Would recommend this product, as I definitely plan on getting another for my other TV.

MANY TIMES THIS PLAYER ALLOWS ME TO BUY CHEAPER DVDS OFFERED IN OTHER REGION FORMATS ON AMAZON UK WEB SITE. IT HAS PAYED FOR ITSELF MANY TIMES OVER!!! I bought this player in October 2007. I use it constantly and it is still going strong almost two years later! REGION FREE RULES! Good product, terrible tech support
This product supports many protocals (e.g. Xvid) and works well. But when the first video I tried didn't start with the "play" command, I called for tech support. First I was told that the player didn't support the -RW disk I was using (which I later found to be incorrect). So I went out and bought +RW disks as the tech recommended, and this didn't work either. So I called tech support again, and this time they told me that the avi file I was trying to pay needed to be converted to a file that e...

OK, but I've had better
This DVD player does as advertised. It plays DVDs. However, the remote had no Fast Forward, or Reverse -- you can only jump ahead or back a section. If you pause or stop the DVD, and them come back the next day, it has turned off and does not remember its position in the movie. Also no subtitle key on the remote. I was looking for a great DVD player that did not need to do BluRay. I failed.
