Cheap! Small & fast. Great pics! Cheap!
Cons:
Plastic & cheaply made. If you drop it at *ANY* height, it's gone. On my second cuz the first I dropped from 1.5 ft and the whole thing shattered in pieces!! The focusing ring is flimsy as well.

Good bang for your buck.
Bottom line, this lens is worth your money. Canons sharpest, fastest, etc? Not by far but for the price and what you get it does the job fantastically well.
Autofocus motor IS noisy, but the focus isnt' that slow. It hunts at night so focus with flash then put it back into manual.
Very very lightweight
The mount is plastic(BOOO)
Has a fast/wide aperture.

very affordable, high-quality lens
I use this lens to take photos of my horses to avoid distortion that regular lens give, also to take advantage of natural light that is less than optimal for others.
The connection to the camera is made of plastic rather than metal, and will probably only last me for a few hundred years -- ha!
This is a great lens for the money.

Canon EF 50mm Great Lens
I just recently acquired this lens, and I will be using it for protraits, but it is a great "general purpose" lens as well. Its focus is great, and the lens itself is easy to use. My pictures are crips and clear when printed!

Best Canon lens for the price
The Canon 50mm f1.8 is a must have lens and for the price it is almost a no-brainer. Very sharp pictures, beautiful bokeh, works well in low light, light weight. It does have cheap construction and is very plastic but for the price i can live with that.
