Superior Camera
This camcorder is phenomenal! The shots are beautiful and clear - the auto focus is very intuitive. The sound is fantastic. I love this camcorder. This takes very high grade professional videos in HD. I love that it shoots in widescreen.

Some thoughts on HDR-SR12
I ordered this camera in mid-August, then used it on a 7-day trip to Cape Cod.
I rate this unit 5 stars because of its great picture quality and general ease of use.
Specifics:
1. Images were beautifully sharp and clear, just what I'd expected from a High Definition camcorder.
2. Image stabilization worked very well.

Worth every dollar!
Camcoder takes great video. My outdoor shots are incredible. It is a paintime cosuming to get the vids on DVD but again the results are incredible. This camera is easy to use and takes great vids. The steady shot really does work. It looks shaky when you zoom in to a far away object but when you watch the results its smoothe. Lighting is important and will play a part in good or bad results. (Four month usage review) Awesome HD Results!
Beautiful HD results. Amazing. A bit awkward to hold. I have averageL hands. Fade inout is only accessbile from display panel which makes the eye viewfinder go dark and then the feature is several menus deep. As a result Ive had to give up fade inout and spend extra time post-production adding fade inout. Included software is minimalist so Ive had to upgrade to Sony Vegas to provide adequate DVD authoring features.

Great camera BUT...
Just took this on a three week foreign tour and it does a lot of things amazingly well. I did a lot of research and am quite knowledgeable, and was originally going to buy one of the new units that runs on flash cards because I liked their size. But they made too many compromise -- one of the worst of them being a lack of a viewfinder. The Sony HDR-SR12 is a great camera. Going from a Hi8 analog to this new Sony is night and day. getting through all the features takes a little time to learn but worth it. Face detection is ok. It tends to adjust focus which is a little annoying the faces go in and out of focus if there are multiple people in the picture. Sound is good. Still photo qualtiy is great on the LCD.
