Excellent Camcorder for the Money
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) We did not buy or exspect the Kodak Zi8 to compete with a $1200 prosumer Canon or Sony camcorder. We were looking at the high end Canon's but were not 100% ready to commit to the cost for what appeared to be mediocre performance by most reviews, particularly with respect to low light performance.

Excellent Camera
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I just received my camera today and can't wait to use it. I did purchase an additional memory card (16gb sdhc). I starting shooting some video and the quality is great. I have it set to 720p/60fps and it was excellent. I also realize when shooting at 1080p, it will drastically reduce your battery and storage. Seriously the worst experience
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) So I buy this particular pocket camera because it offers HD video and stills - the only one that offers still for now. And, I bought it in anticipation of my son's birthday. Lo and behold, the battery won't take a charge. Using the Zi8 for Concert Recordings
I'm friends with a lot of Boston area musicians, and I have been very supportive of them. Near the beginning of the year, I started using a Kodak Zi6 in preparation for a video project involving the Boston area music community, mostly as proof of concept for the use of modern low-cost video technology in capturing music shows in a very naturalistic, unobtrusive manner. Great, unless you're editing with Sony Vegas
Pros: clear image rendering. The image stabilization is no joke; it's awesome. Lots more settings. Just fantastic video quality for the price, outdoors at least.
Cons: on/off harder to use than the Flip's and a longer lag time to power up. You'll need to update the firmware. Also, NOTE: the Zi8 generates .mov files, which if you live in PC-world and plan to edit using your new Sony Vegas software will leave you scrambling to buy new software. :-p
