Great Cross-Platform Support
This USB-RS232 converter is based on the PL-2303 chipset and is one of the few with true cross-platform support. Other models are lacking drivers for Mac, Linux, Vista, and 64-bit flavors of Windows. If you need something that'll just work no matter what you're running get a USB-RS232 adapter based either on the PL-2303 (like this one) or the FTDI chipsets.
There are other converters out there that provide more reliable data transfer at higher speeds, but this is a great buy for the m...

Performs as it should
Connected 4 of these to the same computer to run DNS. Till now works 24/7 for a couple of monts without any problem neither resouce conflicts (other SYBA hardware gave me tons of problems). Didn't have even to install the driver. WinXP recognized it as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM3)" to (COM6). Recomended product.

Works out of the box on Linux
I needed this to connect to my SBC ALIX-based embedded firewall along with a null-modem cable. It works without a driver on my linux (Debian) system except to figure out the serial line I had to run $ 'dmesg | grep tty' and it shows up as ttyUSB0. Set this in your serial client connection software. I tested it with minicom and Putty which should be in the packages for your distro. Debian makes liveCDs if you don't have a *nix box.

A very good adapter based on Prolific chipset.
We have tested this converter under Windows XP, Vista on wintel notebook and Mac OS Leopard on MacBook. It worked very well. Overall, very stable product.

A must for Cisco device administrators
Tech Level: Ownership: This user purchased this item from Newegg Comments: A must for Cisco administrators without serial ports. Works perfectly with the console cable. Just plug it in, install the drivers and telnet in on com4. Thank you TRENDnet. I can carry just one notebook again.

Working Good
This is perfect for the price. It work perfectly; for window vista, it has a pre-installed driver. The only one thing is that it does not work with my gender changer; I had to use an all female null cable. Everything is working like fresh water.

Works great with Mac OS X
You have to install the driver on the CD first but once you do it works great with Mac OS X (10.5). You do not have to reboot after the driver install even though it is really insistent about it.
I'm using a shareware program called ZTerm to talk through it but it just shows up as a character device so you ought to be able to use it with anything. It also shows up as a device in the system network settings if you are into that kind of thing.

Does what it says, though a little clumsily (and not in Vista)
The small non-profit office where I work recently received as a donation one of those scales that will automatically calculate shipping rates -- if you have a serial port on your computer to load current rates onto the scale. I don't.
I was surprised to learn from reviews on various sites that it looks like all USB to serial converters have a hit-or-miss factor, but decided this one would be worth the gamble. It was.
It took some trial and error in when I connected it to th...

Saved me from buying a new modem
When I had my motherboard replaced, my computer no longer had a 9 pin serial port. This cable saved me from having to spend $100 on a new external fax modem! Install was a snap and it simply worked. I wish everything computer related was this easy and inexpensive.
