So close yet so far

Classic design goof up.

This serial adapter has a DB9 male connector in the DTE pinout.

I purchased this adapter to plug into the console ports of various computers and network switches so it should've been a DB9 female connector in the DCE pinout. Clearly, they realized this so they provide a female to female null modem adapter (most null modem adapters are male to female).

Unfortunately they left pin 9 unconnected as would be the case in most null modem c...

Great product.. but not really wireless

Tech Level: somewhat high
Ownership: less than 1 day

Pros: Nice device for creating wireless print servers and such. Would recommend it to anyone using it to get rid of network cables.

NewEgg rocked my socks; I bought on Monday around lunchtime and it was here at lunchtime on Tuesday. Way to go NewEgg!!

Cons: Not mentioned that you need to plug in an AC adapter for this puppy to work. I was looking for something that I...

Junk

I purchased this to connect to a weather station. Real simple handshaking, no special drivers needed. Works by dumb polling.
However, it doesn't work. I can connect via hyper terminal through a port and it does work, but I need it to act as a slave.
I sent IOGear a rather detailed explaination of what I'm doing, and what I've tried - what I got back was a one line sentence telling me to try something I had already told them that I had tried. I emailed them back a second time and I'...

DO NOT BUY - DOES NOT WORK!

After spending many hours (phone and email) with tech support I was able to get this device to function with 2 of them back to back with each other and transfer files via x-modem PC to PC (as a test). I did not buy them for this purpose (Wireless or wired LAN is MUCH faster!).
I was able to limp along to provision a box at 4800 bps (software port speed setting only) via bluetooth adapter to one of these using HyperTerminal (not available on my Vista PC, had to download TeraTerm freeware re...

It could be refined a little more but works

This device works as expected. The claimed distance might be a little oversold though. I too assumed this was completely wireless, without the need for a power adapter - so was a little disappointed.

This device does work as advertised, I have used it to connect to various pieces of network Hardware.

Worked for me

I was pretty apprehensive to purchase this item based on the other reviews, but I was also pretty stuck. I have a weather station that has an RS232 port but I didn't want to have to tether it to my PC in the study with a serial cable. From other bluetooth experiences, I knew that bluetooth had a serial capability, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Getting it to all work was a challenge, I'll admit. I started with a wired connection to the weather station and made sure everything was ...

High hopes, but dismal execution

I really had high hopes for this product. But it's not working at all. First problem is getting it paired. After several failed attempts, I call the IOGear tech guys. They suggest that the device needs to be reset. Only problem: to reset it, you have to plug it into a serial port. I bought this because my computers don't have a serial port. So I finally dig up an 8 year old computer that still works and sure enough, I do the resetting and at least it's paired. Unfortunately, once it's paired on ...

Unfortuantely this didn't work for me...

Aspects of this device seemed to work, i.e., my computer recognized it, but overall I didn't get it to work with the serial device I was connecting it to. I've built several computers (tech savvy), but after switching to a mac, I really don't need to spend a day trying to figure something out. I just wanted to plug it in and have it work. So, maybe this device is good, but not for me.

Bricked while still setting up

Took several times to pair with each of my phone and laptop. Once I got it up and running, the attached GPS data would come through sporadically, then stop and require a reboot of the bluetooth dongle. After a few iterations, the firmware seems to have crashed and now won't boot. Can't even get to the configuration screen. It appears that the power jack is loose... I'm guessing that the loose power dropped out during a critical moment and screwed up whatever on board storage medium is used f...
