Nice balance of technology and price!
Don't pass up the D60 just because it's called "entry level". This unassuming camera is very well made, doesn't cost a fortune, has a lot of features, and is capable of producing stunning photos, depending on the user. Here's my overview of what you're getting, what you're not, and why I bought it.
What you're getting is Nikon engineering in a compact body with very good ergonomics and all the necessary features you need to shoot in most situations -that is, for people who enjoy phot...

Fantastic Images, Lightweight and Well-Built
This is a great camera, and don't let anyone tell you it's only for beginners. The images that the D60 produces easily rival that of more expensive cameras. When you spend less money on the D60, you are sacrificing a few bells & whistles but not necessarily image quality.
It has all the manual settings you'd expect in an SLR and a very easy-to-navigate (and nice-looking) menu system. The LCD screen is big and bright, and the viewfinder is great as well.
What it's missing (a...

Great step up from point and shoot
Having come full circle from owning Canon Rebel manual 35mm film cameras in the 80's and 35mm automatic cameras in the 90's, then using a relatively good Sony Point and Shoot digital, I have to say the Nikon D60 has reinvigorated my desire to get "the picture" rather than just snap "a picture". I evaluated the Sony, Canon and Nikon models, and in the end the 60 provide the right blend of megapixels, comfort while shooting, available Vibration Reduction lens combinations, and at a price point un...

Quality Pics, Fast
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month Pros: Actually, it does not take 1-2 seconds for the camera to be ready to take a picture. If you press the shutter release as you turn the camera on, it will take a picture instantly. Otherwise, the camera performs an integrated sensor cleaning / dust removal process.
Cons: 1) Haven't figured out how to turn off the LCD. This may not even be possible, and it hurts when taking photo...

Great Camera for the Price
Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 week to 1 month Pros: We bought this camera, twice in fact looking for the best deal. I bought it for my girlfriend because her old kodak easyshare camera didn't take nearly the quality of pictures she was looking for. This was by far our best choice for the money. Her mother has a D40 but the VR lense and the added bonuses on the D60 were well worth it. If we had the money we would have went with the Canon XSi but for the...

I should've bought this one instead of the more expensive D80 / this is a 2008 BMW M3 and the D80 is the 2002 535i
If you want a Nikon SLR and don't plan on photographing bullets in flight...., then take this D60 instead of a D80 and save some dollars.
There are too many great and detailed reviews of this camera for me to describe the technical advantages. We own a D80 and I just finished borrowing a D60 for two weeks and can't tell the difference in quality.
The D60 is also closer to the old Nikon F4 which was a legendary 35mm camera released in 1988 and just another REMINDER to the w...

The BEST...
I got this camera in May and i cant say enought about it. I so love it. It is light weight and the comfort is perfect. I am still learning the different features on the camera but once i learned how to shoot in manual....WOW...the pics popped even more .I would highly recommend this camera to everyone. Matter of fact two of my friends went out and got the camera as well. Buy it you will not regret it. The battery life is outstanding. I cant put the camera down...

Very happy.
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I was a bit torn between this camera and the D80 which my friend has but, with the lower price, smaller size, and a VR kit lens I was sold on the D60. Last night I had a photo shoot in a night club for a birthday party. I love the sensor in the eye piece, i didn't mind not having the extra LCD screen, Also, I took over 400 pictures using mostly my internal flash with a jimmy rigged defuse...

What a fantastic camera!
With the standard VR lens I was able to capture some unbelievable moments of my kids in action and portrait. The functions on this camera are easy to use and with the Extreme II card the fine JPEG was saved to the card in lightning speed. brI was torn between the D80 and the D60 but chose the D60 due to a much more simplistic approach to the settings. I dont like to struggle with the gray LCD on the top of the camera. i had that on the Nikon Coolpix 5700 and hated how complicated it was to chang...

Great Little Camera, But Be Prepared To Work A Bit
I've had my D60 for two months now, and only have just gotten familiar enough with it to feel that I can competently write a *useful* review for it. "Right Out Of The Box" reviews cannot really stand in for a good, solid understanding of what you're holding. I quite like it. I now know what IT likes, doesn't like, and how to fix its mistakes.
Pros: 1. Quite lightweight
2. Sturdy
3. Very quick boot-up time.
4. Battery lasts a flab...
